‘Tis The Season 🦃 🎄 

It is officially one week from Thanksgiving. With that comes a myriad of holiday tree lightings and different events. This week thought I would compile a list of events that are happening in the coming weeks to help you fill out your calendars. 📆 

Note: Not all of these are this weekend.

THE ROUNDUP 🧵📱

Airport Update 🛫 

Des Moines International Airport is expanding its travel options with Allegiant Air. It will be adding new non-stop flights to Jacksonville, Florida, and Boston, Massachusetts. These additions aim to enhance convenience for travelers seeking direct access to these popular East Coast destinations. The service reflects ongoing efforts to connect Des Moines to more cities, bringing the airport’s total number of nonstop destinations to 33.

EMC Expo Center

Hy-Vee Hall, part of the broader Iowa Events Center, will be renamed to the EMC Expo Center in 2025 following the conclusion of Hy-Vee's naming rights agreement. The facility, known for hosting numerous events and conventions, will undergo a rebranding process similar to what we have reported with Wells Fargo Arena transitioning to the Casey’s Center. EMC Insurance Cos. will pay more than $6.28 million over 10 years to have its name on the events and meeting room space.

Matt Rife 🗣️ 

Matt Rife's comedy is described as a dynamic mix of sharp wit, observational humor, and playful crowd interaction. Des Moines will get to experience it first hand next June when Rife brings his Stay Golden Tour to Wells Fargo Arena. This won’t be his first stop in Iowa’s capitol city, having performed at The Funny Bone in the past

This is the second comedian to commit to Des Moines in the last couple of weeks, following Shane Gillis.

Sip & Shop

It’s the 3rd annual Sip & Shop at the Middlebrook Mercantile in Cumming. Get into the festive spirit with some delightful holiday shopping, enjoy a seasonal drink, and have a blast with friends at this much-loved event!

Some of your favorite local brewery’s and taprooms are hosting this event with over 30 different makers this Sunday afternoon. Big Grove, Lua, and Exile will be the sites for this free event.

Winter Farmers’ Market

The Downtown Farmers’ Market may be done for the year, but you won’t want to miss out on the Winter Market this weekend at the Iowa Events Center. Shop from an incredible selection of local seasonal produce, meat, cheese, eggs, jam, jelly and salsa, along with an array of unique holiday gifts. Come out and support local small business ahead of this holiday season.

Come out to the Civic Center to experience the this famed ballet show. The Hip Hop Nutcracker is a mash-up of classic, hip hop dance and Tchaikovsky’s timeless music brought together into a heart-stirring and inspiration holiday event. Tickets are available here.
